The Capital Chemist College Scholarships are for ACT public school students who will be in their final year of secondary education in 2020.

Each of the ACT’s nine secondary colleges and two specialist schools will be awarded up to three scholarships, including an Academic Excellence Scholarship, a Citizenship Scholarship and a Capital Chemist Scholarship to be offered to a student with a particular need.

Each scholar will receive $1000 to be used for their direct educational benefit during their final year of schooling. Funds are to be administered by the student’s School Principal, on the scholar’s behalf.

The scholarship is to cover educational expenses such as:

  • Stationery and books
  • Uniforms and equipment
  • Laptop, iPad or similar device
  • Subject or study related software
  • Excursions and camps
  • Face-To-Face Tutoring or Online Tutoring

If a student leaves public school before the end of Year 12, the scholarship will lapse. Any unspent monies at the end of the scholarship period must be refunded to the Public Education Foundation scholarship fund.

BASIC ELIGIBILITY

  • Attends one of the following ACT secondary colleges; Canberra College, Dickson College, Erindale College, Gungahlin College, Hawker College, Lake Tuggeranong College, University of Canberra Senior Secondary College, Melba Copland Secondary College, Narrabundah College, The Woden School and Black Mountain School
  • Currently in Year 11 (in 2019)
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Potential to do well at school
  • Has a positive attitude towards school and high rates of attendance
  • Intends to complete their HSC and continue to tertiary education or workplace training
  • Has clear future goals
  • Participates in school life
  • Contributes in the community and/or in extracurricular activitie

Selection Process

A selection panel will review all scholarship applications and assess them against the selection criteria. The selection panel will include representatives of the Public Education Foundation and Capital Chemist College Scholarships Committee. After considering all applications, the selection panel will recommend the selected applicants for the approval of the Public Education Foundation’s Board. The successful applicant will be notified in December 2019.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome via email. If successful, the scholarship recipient’s school principal will also receive notification directly.

Applicants may apply for one of the following Scholarships:

  • Academic Excellence Scholarship – the student demonstrates an outstanding record of achievement in schooling or has shown particular improvement or commitment to their stud
  • Citizenship Scholarship – the student demonstrates a strong record of participation in community activities at school or in the community.
  • Capital Chemist Scholarship – the student demonstrates potential or ability in a particular area or skill which the school supports or wants to foster

Please ensure you indicate which scholarship you are applying for on your Application Form.

  • A statement outlining why you are a suitable candidate for this scholarship and how you meet each of the selection criteria. (Maximum 400 words)
  • A copy of all pages of your most recent school report ready to upload
  • Endorsement from the Principal

 Submitting Your Application

Once you have finalised your application and all elements are complete you can submit it for review.

Applications must be submitted by 11.59pm on Tuesday 17 September 2019.
