11 April 2017:

A BASS Hill principal is set to travel to the United States to take part in a prestigious scholarship at the Harvard University.

Three outstanding principals from across Australia are off to the Harvard Graduate School of Education to undertake a professional education program in June.
The Harvard Club of Australia Education Scholarships were established by the Public Education Foundation in 2013, offering principals around Australia the opportunity to ‘reflect, focus and recharge’ through a professional education program tailor-made for school principals.

Bass Hill Public School principal Melissa Proctor will join Brett Burgess, principal at Bribie Island State High School in Queensland and Rockingham Beach Primary School principal Jacqui O’Donnell from Western Australia, in travelling to the Cambridge, Massachusetts scholarship.

Each scholarship is valued at about $14,000 and includes program tuition for one of two Harvard Graduate School of Education programs ‘Improving Schools: The Art of Leadership’ or ‘Leadership: An Evolving Vision’.
The courses run in June and July 2017.

Mrs Proctor said she was looking forward to taking part in the scholarship. “I’m so excited to have the opportunity to meet with my colleagues from around the world, and be able to bring back experience and knowledge, not only to my school, but to the broader NSW educational community,” she said.

Public Education Foundation Executive Director David Hetherington says the scholarship is a way of rewarding school principals who have a commitment to public education and have exhibited a strong capacity for leadership into the future.
