What does a scholarship recipient receive?

  • Financial support: funds for educational goals such as laptops, school supplies and study needs, school excursions etc.

  • Academic support: For school scholarships, the Foundation works with teachers and principals to ensure ongoing support and mentoring for scholarship recipients.

  • Awards ceremony: a formal acknowledgement of recipient achievement at the annual Public Education Awards Ceremony in Sydney.

Each of these scholarships provide support and encouragement for a public primary school student entering Year 2 in 2021, throughout their time at primary school.  Consideration will be given to applicants who are experiencing equity, social or physical disadvantage which could prevent them from realising their potential at school.

General NSW Primary Principals Association Scholarship

The NSW Primary Principals Association scholarship is available to public school students entering Years 3 – 6 in 2021.  There are four one year scholarships available, providing $1,000 each, to assist students whose financial situation may prevent them from achieving their potential at school.

General David S. Ratner

The Public Education Foundation’s David S. Ratner Scholarship provides support and encouragement for public primary, high school or tertiary students in 2021. This scholarship will support students with $1,000 per year for a maximum of five years in primary and/or secondary school and/or University or TAFE (provided they remain in public education throughout the five year period).  Consideration will be given to applicants whose family identifies as Jewish.

Indigenous Una May Smith

This scholarship supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in public schools in NSW.  One scholarship will be awarded to a student in each Stage group – with a total of 6 scholarships awarded across primary and high school.  The scholarship will provide financial support of $1,000 per year for two years for each student provided they remain enrolled in a public primary or secondary school.

Indigenous Rural and Remote Indigenous Primary Scholarship

This Scholarship supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in Australian public primary schools in a rural or remote area.  The scholarship is funded by the Edward C Dunn Foundation and will provide financial support to one successful applicant to the amount of $1,000 per year for each year of their primary schooling to assist with educational expenses .

Indigenous GO-PEF Foundation Scholarship (primary)

The GO-PEF Foundation Scholarship program supports Indigenous primary school students through their early and most formative years of schooling.  Scholarships are provided in a collaborative model with cultural mentoring and opportunities from GO’s partners to compliment in-school learning.

Girls Agnes Borsody Scholarship

The Agnes Borsody Scholarship provides financial assistance to refugee or immigrant girls, or daughters or granddaughters of refugees or immigrants. The scholarship was designed to assist students in financial need who may otherwise not have the opportunity to reach their full potential.  Up to 5 scholarships are available for eligible female students enrolled in Years 8 – 11 in 2021 at a NSW public selective high school, a NSW public specialist high school, or the selective stream of a NSW partially selective high school.

Girls Harding Miller Education Foundation

The Harding Miller Education Foundation Scholarship Program provides practical support to lift the educational and career aspirations of high potential Australian girls who are experiencing socio-economic disadvantage.  Each scholarship is valued at $20,000 across four years – beginning in Year 9.  Applications are accepted from eligible female students who are enrolled in a public school within any state or territory of Australia.

Indigenous GO-PEF Foundation Scholarship

The GO-PEF Foundation Scholarship program supports Indigenous students through school and provides access to tools and resources students need to thrive.  Scholarships are provided in a collaborative model with partner organisations.  They provide a combination of financial assistance, cultural and aspirational mentoring and access to opportunity and pathways to further education.

Indigenous Aboriginal Education Council

Funded by the Aboriginal Education Council, this scholarship supports two Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in NSW Public Schools to successfully complete their senior years of schooling.  The scholarship will provide financial support of $1,000 per year in year 11 and 12 for both students.

Indigenous Jack Brockhoff Indigenous Victorian Scholarship

This scholarship, funded by the Jack Brockhoff Foundation, supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in Public Schools in Victoria to successfully complete their senior years of schooling. There are eight scholarships available which will provide financial support of $1,250 per year in year 11 and year 12 for each successful recipient.

Indigenous Rural and Remote Indigenous Secondary Scholarship

This scholarship supports Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in Australian public high schools in rural or remote areas. The scholarship is funded by the Edward C Dunn Foundation and will provide financial support of $2,000 per year in years 11 and 12 to one successful applicant to assist the student with resources and services relevant to improving their educational outcomes.

General Connected Communities Scholarship

Available for students in Connected Communities schools.  These scholarships support students in need who have a passion for learning, technology, sport or creative and performing arts. The scholarship will provide financial support of $2,000 per year for two years for each successful recipient.

General PEF National Secondary Scholarship

These scholarships supports two Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students, two refugee students and two students currently experiencing financial hardship that may prevent them from continuing their senior years of education in a public school.  The scholarship will provide financial support of $1,500 per year in year 10, 11 and 12 for each successful recipient.

General Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue Scholarship

Funded by the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue, these scholarships support public school students attending a high school in Western Sydney. Each scholarship will provide financial support of $1,000 per year in year 11 and year 12 to help with resources and services to improve educational outcomes.

The Friends of Zainab Senior Secondary  Scholarship – Year 10 is for students with a refugee background currently in Year 10 in 2020.  This two year scholarship provides support for students for years 11 and 12 to complete their final years of high school before continuing to tertiary education or training.

Social Justice Unions NSW

The Unions NSW Jeff Shaw Memorial Scholarship supports public school students studying curriculum subjects with aspects of unionism such as Economics, Business Studies, Legal Studies and Modern History.  It provides financial support for students in Year 12 to assist students to complete their final year of high school before continuing to tertiary education.

Music Emorgo (entrance to Conservatorium HS)

This scholarship is offered to a student entering Year 7 at the Conservatorium High School as a member of the junior Vocal Stream or as an instrumentalist majoring in the study of a woodwind instrument OR existing Conservatorium High School students currently in Year 7, 8 or 9 who are majoring in woodwind or the French Horn.

Music J Holden Family Foundation (entrance to Conservatorium HS)

The J Holden Family Foundation Scholarship for Music was established to support talented musicians attend the Conservatorium High School, and is offered to a student whose financial circumstances are such that they would substantially benefit from this scholarship.

Music Patricia Long (entrance to Conservatorium HS)

Established with the proceeds of the estate of the late Patricia Long, this scholarship helps talented musicians attend the Conservatorium High School.  The recipient will receive financial support for each year they remain enrolled as a student at the Conservatorium High School.

General Capital Chemist

These scholarships are for ACT public school students who will be in their final year of secondary education in 2021.  Up to three scholarships will be awarded to students in each of the ACT’s nine secondary colleges and two specialist schools, including an Academic Excellence Scholarship, a Citizenship Scholarship and a Capital Chemist Scholarship to be offered to a student with a particular need.

The Walter and Eliza Hall Trust Opportunity Scholarship will provide a student with a physical disability transition into tertiary education. Up to five scholarships are available, each valued at $10,000.

General Susan & Isaac Wakil Foundation

Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation scholarships seek to support motivated individuals with demonstrated merit who are facing hardship to realise their career goals and contribute to a better and brighter Australia. The scholarships provide financial assistance to high potential students in Year 12 who intend to continue studying either at TAFE or University after finishing their Higher School Certificate in 2020.

Applications close 4th August 2020.

Food Tech NSW Cookery Association

The NSW Cookery Teachers Association Scholarship is offered to public school students in NSW completing Year 12 in 2020 who intend to continue to university to study a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or equivalent with a major in Food Technology.

Refugee Friends of Zainab (Tertiary)

The Public Education Foundation’s Friends of Zainab Tertiary Scholarship is for refugee students currently in Year 12 in 2020 intending to enter university or TAFE in 2021 – and gives an annual bursary of $2,000 for the first two years of full-time university or TAFE study.

Applications for Public Education Foundation scholarships are all online.

  • Within each scholarship on the website there will be a link to the relevant application form. To apply for the scholarship please click on that link and follow the prompts. You must complete all sections of the form, unless clearly labelled as Optional.
  • The General Application Form is the first form you will complete. Here you fill out contact details and information about you/your family.
  • A Personal Statement will need to be completed for most scholarship applications. You have up to 400 words to describe why you are a suitable candidate for the scholarship and how you meet each of the selection criteria. The personal statement is one of the most important parts of a scholarship application as it is all about you! Take your time to write something that gives our scholarship panels an idea of who you are and your educational dreams. All this information is confidential and covered by our Privacy Policy.
  • Some applications may ask you to show financial need.  We do not require copies of your bank statements but please tell us in your words how your financial need is affecting your education and how your life would change if you won the scholarship.
  • Upload your most recent school report (pdf)
  • Most of our scholarships require a reference from someone who knows you, like a community member or teacher. Make sure you tell them the selection criteria for the scholarship when you ask them for the reference.
  • You will need to initiate a request, via the online application to ask your Principal to complete a supporting statement.   The Principal will then receive an email asking them to complete a statement of support online.  Make sure you contact your Principal in advance of sending the request and leave plenty of time for them to complete this.
  • If you are under 18 you will need to get consent from a parent or guardian
  • Once all documents have been uploaded, your application is ready to submit. Press submit. You will be considered by our scholarship review panel and we will be in touch.
