Opportunities for Students

The Public Education Foundation has a range of scholarships to help young people at public schools reach their potential.

As disadvantage is the main barrier to student performance, the Foundation aims to remove those barriers to achievement created by social and economic disadvantage. We also recognise and reward student excellence to encourage high achieving students to continue to maximise their potential.

We regularly develop new opportunities to meet the needs of scholarship recipients, donors and the changing nature of career pathways.

A full list of student scholarships and scholarship opening and closing dates can be found here.

All applications are now online. You will be asked to answer an eligibility questionnaire. Your answers determine which scholarships you are able to apply for. Please read the  Scholarship Terms and Conditions and FAQs for further information.

What you will need to apply for a Public Education Foundation student scholarship:

  • Complete the general application form
  • A personal statement addressing the selection criteria
  • A personal reference from someone who knows you
  • A reference from your principal
  • Your most recent school report
  • A signed consent form from a parent or guardian

What does a scholarship recipient receive?

  • Financial support: recipients receive funds to be used for educational goals such as tutoring, school supplies, laptops, school excursions and incidental fees. The amount depends of the scholarship. They may be multi-year or single year scholarships.

  • Academic Support: For school scholarships, the Foundation works with teachers and principals to ensure ongoing support for the scholarship recipients.

  • Awards ceremony: scholarship recipients receive a formal acknowledgement of their achievement at the annual Public Education Awards Ceremony in Sydney.
