With the generous support from Susan and Isaac Wakil, the Public Education Foundation established the Susan & Isaac Wakil Foundation Scholarship, with funding for the inaugural cohort of recipients commencing in 2016.

This scholarship provides financial assistance to potential high school students to transition into and progress through University or TAFE in trade or professional fields that are in high demand.

Susan and Isaac Wakil are migrants to Australia who set up a successful clothing business and invested in the Sydney property market in the 1970s and 1980s. More recently, the couple have decided to sell much of their property portfolio with divestments being turned into charitable donations.  Education has been a major focus of Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation.

Recognising the need to offer students pathways to satisfying and fulfilling work, Isaac Wakil said, “We strongly believe that education and trades are essential tools which give young people the opportunity to enter into fulfilling and secure work. And we feel that granting scholarships to disadvantaged school-leavers is a worthy cause.”

The Public Education Foundation is deeply honoured to be a beneficiary of the Wakil’s incredible generosity.

The recipients of the 2017 Susan and Wakil Foundation Scholarship will be announced in December.
