The Public Education Foundation, in partnership with Teachers Mutual Bank, is proud to announce that Emmie Keung and Huy Le, both Learning Specialists at Sunshine College West Campus, have been awarded the 2025 Teachers Mutual Bank Victorian Mid-Career Scholarship.
This scholarship recognises and supports public school teachers in Victoria who have been teaching for between five and fifteen years, with $10,000 provided by Teachers Mutual Bank for professional development activities of the scholar’s choice.
Emmie Keung, Learning Specialist – Numeracy, is a passionate advocate for lifelong learning and educational leadership. Reflecting on her scholarship, Emmie said, “This scholarship is an invaluable opportunity for mid-career teachers like myself to cultivate high-quality leadership skills and experiences to develop into an effective leader. I aspire to create a meaningful and lasting impact in public education, inspiring students and educators alike to embrace curiosity, persistence, and a commitment to growth.”
As a mathematics teacher, Emmie is dedicated to transforming student mindsets from “I can’t” to “I can.” She is committed to fostering a collaborative culture of shared leadership, empowering both students and educators to reach their full potential. Emmie believes the scholarship will enable her to develop the skills necessary to address disparities in education and inspire positive, lasting change.
Huy Le, Learning Specialist and Year 12 Coordinator, views the scholarship as an affirmation of his dedication to public education. “This scholarship represents much more than financial support—it’s a validation of my commitment to empowering students and colleagues in schools who face systemic challenges,” Huy said.
Huy’s leadership philosophy focuses on equity, inclusion, and addressing the diverse needs of students. His passion for mentoring and coaching teachers helps build their capacity to overcome challenges, including socioeconomic barriers and teacher shortages. Huy added, “This opportunity will enhance my ability to foster collaboration among staff, improve teaching practices, and ensure lasting positive impacts on school culture. Ultimately, it supports students in becoming empowered learners and engaged citizens.”
Both Emmie and Huy plan to use their scholarships to pursue advanced professional development opportunities that will enhance their leadership capabilities and deepen their impact within their school and broader community.
Teachers Mutual Bank’s Sponsorship and Community Engagement Manager, Glinda Major, said, “Mid-career teachers are critical to the success of our education system. It is a privilege to support Emmie and Huy as they continue to learn and develop their leadership capabilities. Teachers Mutual Bank applauds their passion for creating equitable, inclusive, and transformative learning environments for students and educators.”
Paul Somers, Chief Operating Officer of the Public Education Foundation, added, “The dedication Emmie and Huy have shown to public education is truly inspiring. This scholarship not only supports their professional development but also strengthens their ability to contribute to the broader mission of public education. We are incredibly grateful for Teachers Mutual Bank’s support in making this possible.”
The Teachers Mutual Bank Victorian Mid-Career Scholarship continues to empower educators to drive meaningful change within public education, ensuring that students from all backgrounds have access to quality learning experiences and opportunities to thrive.
